I get so excited every year when our grape vine starts sprouting it’s first buds of the season. Every year, Dave prunes it back to nearly nothing but bare sticks. Every year, I think it surely must be dead. And every year, it surprises me with a little tiny green reminder that seasons change. I know a ton of you have been following little Layla Grace’s final struggle with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma this week. It’s amazing that the painful journey of a darling 2 year old can bring together over 40,000 followers, well-wishers and prayers via Twitter. Social networking is no less than amazing. Anyhoo, I don’t really know what I’m trying to say here – something profound probably, that I just can’t manage to spit out into words. I guess, that after some depressing weeks and months for us, and the death of a child I only knew via the internet, I am simply reminded this week to be grateful for those who love me, my health, my adorable kid, and steadfast husband… and for those little green buds that remind me every year that life does go on.

RIP Layla Grace – 11/26/2007 – 3/9/2010
